Dogs Mr P Lovel (Lovetrac)
Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge Dogs. The Northern Society means a lot to me as it is one of my ‘local’ Cavalier clubs, and I have been a life member for years. Also, Leeds is my local championship show and one of my favourites in the calendar. It was a pleasure to judge alongside Lesley Kilcoyne. We agreed on all the BIS awards, but left the Referee to decide Best Veteran as Lesley bred the Veteran Dog winner.
There was certainly less depth of quality than the last time I judged males, but I was delighted with all my main winners. Limit Dog was a particularly strong class where all of the dogs placed could have changed places on another day. The strong wind did affect the performance of some exhibits. Thanks to everyone who brought their dogs today and helped make the show a success, and thanks to my stewards Richard and Trish.

1st Wileman & Bott’s Ch Granasil Trick Or Treat for Narvidar JW
Almost 8 year B & T boy. Still looking good and such a worthy champion. He is a lovely size and shape – all male but a true toy spaniel. He has a lovely soft head and expression – not aways easy to achieve in B & T. Presents a lovely outline, Super reach of neck , well laid shoulders, well set tail, still moving well around the ring. Definitely has the desired happy Cavalier temperament! BVD and later BVIS.
2nd Nichol’s Chantismere Finnegan
Close up to winner, a very smart dog, superbly balanced, lovely body, level topline, and the softest head and expression. Large round dark eye, well cushioned face, well broken markings and ever wagging tail! Very nice boy.

The wind was dreadful for this class – the dogs did very well! 20 month old Blenheim, scores well for breed type, he has a good reach of neck, well laid shoulder, soft head and expression, with large dark round dark eyes. Good pigment all through. Rich chestnut colouring, well broken. Moved well in the class despite the wind. Well set tail, good bone. Considered him in the challenge but sadly he flagged which was a shame.

Close up to 1. Stronger headed 19 month old blenheim, large round dark eye, appealing head with soft expression, he was in full coat, has lovely rich chestnut colouring, well sprung rubs, and good bone. Definitely a glamour boy. He moved well.

4 year old tri. A lovely neat sized boy, well marked, and well made throughout. Nothing overdone here, just a pleasing well balanced dog, with good bone, rich tan, appealing head and expression. He could be a little more animated, but did enough. Compact all through and moved well. Well presented.
2nd Willis’ Dinitro’s Rock Steady Eddie JW
Well made blen who is glamourous and full of breed type. Pleasing head and expression with large dark eyes, well cushioned face, good pigment. Well broken, rich colouring, he moved well with a good topline. Liked him a lot, just wish he was a size smaller.

VHC Eccles’ Llapsttam Get Knotted JW
Limit (12, 1) This was a lovely class. The places could change on another day, and the strong wind meant some were not showing at their best. I’m sure all will continue to do well.
1st Rhodes’ Calonlan Zeus JW
2 year old tricolour with an eye catching outline and shape to him. He never stopped showing all through the class, and wasn’t bothered by the wind. In fact, he seemed to be enjoying it. He has a lovely soft head and expression, beautiful silky coat, rich tan markings, and was well presented in A1 condition. He has typical dark round eyes, and moved well with a lovely head and tail carriage. Yes, he’s heavily marked, but it didn’t detract. He is a true toy spaniel and I was delighted to award him the DCC. My co–judge and I agreed he should go RBIS & BOS. Congratulations.
2nd Searle’s Stonepit Dominique
Lovely size Blenheim, another which I would call a true toy spaniel. Typical soft head and expression, full of breed type. Good neck and shoulder, level topline. He moved well around the ring, and was correct coming and going. He also coped well in the windy conditions. RCC.

2nd Lunt’s Oaktreepark Royal Austin
4 year old blen, rich tan markings, level topline, shows well for his owner. Large dark eye, black nose, moved well enough, not quite the head and expression of 1.
