Firstly I would like to thank my most efficient stewards Calum and Sarah who kept everything running so smoothly. They were a pleasure to work with and we finished in good time. Thank you also to the exhibitors who entered their dogs and for accepting my placings so graciously.
Now to my comments on the breed in general. I am seriously concerned at the lack of quality in the dog puppy classes. Four entered and three present. How will our breed look in two or three years if we haven’t got good quality males coming along now? It’s little use having good bitches if there is nothing to put them to. What is happening to all the boys? Are they all going off to pet homes because breeders don’t want the hassle of keeping both sexes? We must plan for the future of our breed if it is to survive.
However, on the plus side I had some lovely dogs in the older classes. With the omission of Yearling Classes at this show, both Post Grad and Limit classes were full of quality and I was spoilt for choice. I was able to indulge in my preference for a small, pretty, and shapely toy spaniel with that joyful outgoing temperament that I love and that makes our breed the perfect little companion dog. I have commented on some third placings in classes where decisions were particularly difficult.

One of my favourite classes to judge as these exhibitors are the future of our breed. For me it’s not all about the quality of the dog, but includes handling, presentation, and the good sportsmanship which should make our hobby an enjoyable experience. I see this in spades in our newer exhibitors and love how they support and congratulate each other. |

My little star for the day! He put in an outstanding performance in the Special Beginners Group and to the delight of everyone who stayed to support him he won it! So well deserved! Although my preference is for a smaller dog he could not be denied this class. He has a lovely masculine head with softly cushioned foreface, beautiful, large lustrous eyes, full well furnished leathers framing his face and giving a kind and gentle expression which is what makes our breed so special. Everything fits nicely together, good neck into well laid shoulder level topline and happily waving tail. He covers the ground with ease and presents a very nice picture on the go around. He is beautifully presented with not a hair out of place and has a great rapport with his owner. Best Special Beginner and SP Beg Toy Group 1 |

Small b/t boy with a wealth of coat, once again a credit to his owner on her presentation. He is an ideal size, compact in shape and with good bone. he has enough neck, short coupled with good rear angulation and well let down hocks. Attractive head with dark eyes and correct ear set. I thought at first he might be my winner of this class but I loved the free, easy movement of the one above. It’s also clear to see that he is also adored by his owner and is so attentive to her. |

A classic oldie with a generous masculine head, large dark expressive eyes and excellent nose pigment. Rich chestnut markings, well distributed on pearly white. Well made all through, well muscled and sound as a pound. Moves with drive keeping his good tail and topline. He stood alone here but was absolutely deserving of his red card. Best Veteran Dog |

Tebaldi Bohemian Rhapsody
Rich coloured ruby so typical of his age and colour. Really raw at the moment but has a pretty head, lovely large dark eyes and good nose pigment. He is ok for size and has good topline and tail carriage. His movement can be erratic at times. He looks like a gangly teenager but this will sort itself out with age. Will be interested to see him in another few months when he has matured a little. Best Puppy Dog. |

Small 10 month heavily marked Blenheim baby who had a pretty head with flat skull and dark eyes. He needs more body and I gather he is a fussy eater. He is a happy and confident little dog. He is well schooled but just a bit too proud of his tail. |

This well broken Blenheim boy was just the opposite of the one above. At his first show and needing more practice to stop him pacing on the move. He has a good head type with large dark eyes, showing a little white in one but it didn’t detract too much from his expression. He is well bodied with a lovely neck and lay of shoulder and a good turn of stifle. I hope his owner will persevere because she could have some fun with him. |

Very flashy Blenheim with that "look at me" attitude. He has a beautiful head, flat skull and large dark expressive eyes with black rims, well cushioned foreface and good nose pigment. Nice size and so well balanced, with good front and rear angulations, level topline, good croup and well let down hocks. His straight, silky, richly marked coat was beautifully presented as I would have expected from this exhibitor. He really motored around the ring and pressed very hard for the Res CC. A certain champion I’m sure. |

Well marked Blenheim, lacking the maturity of one above but just right for his age. His head still needs to fill but he has a sweet expression with dark eyes and jet black nose pigment, well set ears and flat skull. Lovely crested neck and well laid shoulders. He presents an elegant picture on the move keeping a level topline and excellent tail carriage. |

Although his head type wasn’t for me I liked the size, outline and attitude of this well broken Blenheim. Well balanced with enough neck and good lay of shoulder, level topline and tail set on well and carried level with his back. Good rib and bone and well angulated for and aft. Glamorous silky coat with rich chestnut markings. He needs to settle and was a bit untidy on the move but I was told this is only his second show. |

So much to like about this young tri boy! He has a beautiful head with large, round, dark eyes and just the right amount of tan markings and width of blaze to give him that lovely soft expression, so difficult to achieve in this colour. He is an ideal size with well ribbed body and good bone, all in a neat well balanced frame. He is well angulated front and rear with a level topline, good croup and quality silky coat. He is exuberant on the move with all the joie de vivre that I love in a Cavalier. Yes he is heavily marked but he has so many other good qualities. I was pleased to award him the Res CC and I’m sure he will gain his well deserved title in the near future. |

I have admired this boy since I first saw him as puppy. He is a true toy spaniel with the prettiest of heads, although still quite obviously a boy. He has large dark eyes with black rims, softly cushioned foreface, well tapered muzzle and jet black nose. Well feathered leathers set well to give a flattish skull and falling forward to enhance his gentle expression. Nothing is exaggerated. He has a crested neck leading to well laid shoulder, level topline, good croup and well turned stifle. Tail well set and carried level with his back. He has good rib with plenty of heart room. He presents a lovely balanced outline both standing and in motion. Rich chestnut markings on a pearly white background and plentiful soft silky (but not excessive) coat completes the picture. Delighted to award him his 16th CC and BOB in a nice quality entry. |

Black and Tan possessing all the quality one would expect from this well known kennel. Masculine head with large dark eyes and gentle outlook. He is well put together with lovely bone, elegant neck set into correct lay of shoulder. Level topline and good tail set. Profuse long silky coat presented to perfection, jet black with rich tan markings in all the right places. Well angulated front and rear with well let down hocks. He has a free and effortless gait with good drive behind. One of the best moving dogs today. |

What more can be said about this lovely little veteran! I have always loved her and she was in my final six at Crufts as a youngster. A real toy spaniel with a huge personality. She is so neat in shape with a very correct head, good ear set and flat skull. She absolutely nails it on the move, head held high, level topline and tail and impressive reach and drive. Her tail never stops and she is everything a Cavalier should be. In my final four and she pressed hard for top honours. Best Veteran and shortlisted in the group. |

A real quality toy spaniel, she has the sweetest, most melting expression, gorgeous large, dark, lustrous eyes with black eye rims and jet black nose. Well angulated front and rear and a reachy neck. Presented a lovely outline both standing and on the move holding a firm topline, good croup and tail straight off her back. In superb condition. Standing she looked a picture. She has the most beautiful eyes, large dark and round with black rims and excellent nose pigment. Well feathered ears falling forward to frame her face and enhance her sweet feminine expression. So well balanced and a perfect size with excellent neck and shoulder, level topline and good croup. Good front and rear angles and well let down hocks. Holds her good topline on the move with head held high and a happily wagging tail. She is totally at one with her handler. I was delighted to award her the Bitch CC in a really strong line up. |

She has a great neck and shoulder, level topline and tail straight off her back. She moves with grace and style. Her long flowing coat tends to hide her lovely outline. So often she doesn’t make the best of herself but today she really seemed to be enjoying her day out. I would be very surprised if she doesn’t get her title. |

When she grows her coat again she is another who I would expect to gain her title. |
