Bitches Mr D Homes (Leogem)
I thank the South & West Wales Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club for inviting me to judge at their forty first Championship Show. My thanks also go to my two ring stewards. This is the first show that I’ve judged since lockdown and is the longest break I’ve had in my thirty-eight years of judging. Tail carriages have greatly improved. A few years ago there were lots of dogs flying their tails but very few do so now in the show ring. However, what does disturb me is the amount of dogs that have rather short necks. A lovely reach of neck gives elegance to the outline. Wide fronts also seem to be becoming more frequent. But overall I was very pleased with my entry.

Best Puppy Bitch Cunningham’s Verheyen Valerie

Veteran (6 Entries, 2 Absent)
1st Berwick’s Ch Harana Peggy Lee Merrylaine
Nine year-old Ruby who, like top quality wine, has matured into a beautiful classic vintage! As she moved elegantly across the ring she portrayed an outline of perfection that befits a dog of half her age. She has a most beautiful head and expression framed by a lovely ear set. Her body shape is precise with a good reach of neck and lay of shoulder and strong hindquarters. With the agreement of my co-judge she was awarded Best Veteran in Show.
2nd Long’s Ch Arroline Eclipse JW
Seven year-old Tricolour who still looks young for her age. Quality coat which gleamed as she moved confidently around the ring. Good topline and tail carriage which was constantly wagging. Pleasing head and expression with large lustrous eyes.
3rd Stahl’s Int/Ger/Hun/Lux Ch Delight For Me vom Kaninchengarten
Res Danks’ Turretbank Fairytail
Minor Puppy (10, 0)
1st Chapman & Ireland’s Ellemich Pure Passion
Seven month Blenheim. A sound moving puppy who moved with grace and confidence. She has a very sweet head with a good reach of neck leading to a correct front assembly and level topline. Well angulated both front and rear. Beautifully marked and with good bone. She really stood out in this large class.
2nd Stahl’s Scarlett vom Kaninchengarten
Very beautiful head and a good neck and shoulder placement. Very well boned with a level topline and correct tail carriage. Moved with sufficient drive. Nicely balanced markings with a white shoulder that portrays a stunning image.
3rd Rhodes’ Calonlan Bianca
Res Jackson’s Amantra Tiger Rose
VHC Thomas’ Tamyse Georgette at Pepyswood
Puppy (6, 1)
1st Cunningham’s Verheyen Valerie
Seven month Blenheim that took my eye the moment that she entered the ring. She really stood out like a shinning star! An adorable make and shape so well proportioned and devoid of any exaggeration. Good spring of rib and correctly angulated. On the move she is the epitome of elegance. Well broken markings with a most appealing head. Large lustrous eyes with black eye rims and good pigment. I’ve never given a high award to a young puppy before, but I simply had to award her the Reserve CC, and with my co-judge she ended up Best Puppy in Show. I have no doubt that she has a very bright future ahead of her.
2nd Long’s Arroline Iridescent
Another top quality puppy. A nine-month Blenheim who also moved with grace and elegance. Well marked with a very pleasing expression and a good overall shape that’s so well proportioned.

1st Jackson’s Applebroad Candy Spice via Fortunamajor JW
Very well coated Blenheim with an excellent topline. Well boned with a good spring of rib. Immaculately presented with a lovely gleaming coat. I would prefer just a slight more reach of neck, but overall she is well balanced and moved with drive.
