Dogs Mr I Sidgwick (Paulian)
I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge the dogs at this show and to the exhibiters who allowed me the privilege to judge their dogs and for waiting for the show to start/end. And not forgetting the efficient ring stewards Richard Cornaby and Terry Stanley who were a great help. With my co-judge James, who I have known for many years, we found the task of judging each others dogs/bitches to decide on the final awards challenging but not arduous and we both agreed on the winners.

Bitches Mr J Finlay-Kirkwood (Grajenco/Marisk/Gilderoak)
I would like to thank the Committee for the lovely invitation and to the Exhibitors for their entry and the sporting way they accepted their placings. Many thanks to my two stewards who kept the ring going. It was a long day for many especially when I had to stop for Birmingham National judging. I had been looking forward to this appointment for some time. On the whole the quality was very high but I found a lot of small eyes which distracts from the soft gentle expression that a Cavalier should have. I also found a few whole colours with white and mismarked parti colours. I didn’t penalise them on the day but this was something that was frowned upon when I started in Cavaliers in the 80’s so it should be watched. It was lovey to Judge along with Ian Sidgwick. Ian and I agreed on all the main awards, so it was nice to see my stunning Bitch go Best in Show.

1st Long’s Ch Arroline Eclipse JW
A lovely 7-year-old tri bitch that has returned to the ring after maternity duties and was lacking some tail feathering. None the less this can’t distract from the beautiful shape she is. From the flowing neck into well laid shoulders, level topline and tail set, lovely ribcage and ex bone. Her head is feminine with lovely round dark eyes that just sparkled. Ex mouth and black nose. Moved around the ring sound as a bell. Best Veteran bitch and with full agreement with Ian, Best Veteran in Show.

I loved this 2yr old ruby bitch, her head is gorgeous, from her large dark eyes, black nose and ex head shape and correctly set on ears which just frame her head, fantastic body shape, ex depth of chest, level topline and correctly set tail. Her coat is soft and silky and is a lovely colour. On the move she covered the ground with ease. I have long admired this Blen bitch and today she didn’t put a foot wrong. Another bitch I’ve judged before. She is a true toy spaniel, would just like a little bit more length of leg to finish the overall picture. She is a lovely shape, level topline and correctly carried tail. Ex depth of chest and ribcage. Enough bone and substance, feminine head with a lovely soft gentle expression. Well-marked coat with bright tan and raven black that just shone and was shown in ex condition. I gave this stunning Blen the Res CC the last time I judged when she was a minor puppy. Said then she would have a brilliant future. Well she certainly has. My opinion is unchanged on her. She fits the breed standard to a tee. From her soft melting cavalier expression and those eyes that just pull you in. To her fantastic body shape which is so well balanced. She knows she is a special lady and she shows her heart out pleasing her handler at all times. Her presentation is second to none, her coat just gleamed and her white was pearly white in colour with rich well broken chestnut markings. She flows around the ring holding her topline with her graceful outline. There was no other bitch today that put on a performance like her. Bitch CC and with full agreement of Ian, Best in Show. Congratulations.
