The following is a list of MRI centres that have contacted the CKCS Club offering reduced rate MRI scans to owners who would like their cavaliers checked for Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia.
These scans are ‘mini scans’ and only scan the neck region.
Mini scans are not suitable where a dog is showing symptoms as a full scan will need to be performed for diagnostic reasons and appropriate treatment.
The list is not exhaustive and additional facilities are frequently being added.
Within the UK the cost is generally around £200 - £300 inclusive of VAT per dog. Some centres offer a discount for more than one dog.
Except where quoted, additional charges are applicable for submission under the formal KC/BVA Scheme.
It is recomended that owners check and confirm all details with individual centres when booking an appointment and discuss how the procedure is carried out. For example some centres scan the head & cervical region under sedation where others use anaesthesia.
It is recomended that owners verify that MRI scans are performed and reviewed in accordance with the KC/BVA CM/SM Screening Scheme and as detailed in the "Proposed BVA/KC Syringomyelia MRI Screening Scheme".
