Dogs Mrs J Wright (Yockley)
It was a great honour to be invited to judge at this wonderful show. Nearly all the dogs were new to me. They were, without exception, all well-presented and with the expected good, happy temperaments. I thank my two very capable stewards Mr & Mrs. Vines who kept the ring running very smoothly; there was a large entry to get through and good stewarding is so very important.
Our wonderful breed has really taken some cruel knocks in recent years, yet it goes on defying the doubters; the quality assembled at Crufts was testament to that. However, there were several dogs present that really lacked substance. I am convinced the demise of Open Shows has weakened the quality. Time was when the Open shows were the proving grounds and if your dog wasn’t up to standard it didn’t go on to Championship shows. It was wonderful to see so many dogs from overseas what a great effort their owners go to.
I was thrilled with my winners. In some classes the quality was such that ‘Firsts’ could have been awarded to several of the exhibits and many went home card-less who, on another day could easily have been highly placed.
My CC Winner, to my eyes, was an absolute cracker of a dog. Much has been written about him and this will continue for some time to come. When it came to Best of Breed, Alex and I were unable agree over the dog and the lovely quality Bitch. Incidentally, of similar breeding; the Referee was called, the nod went to the Dog.
I’m sure there were some very tired dogs and exhibitors following the show, there was certainly one creaky judge, but it was a mammoth day and my thanks to all everyone who entered.

Bitches Miss A Bubb (Wandris)
It was an honour to be asked to judge at this prestigious show and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I found so many bad mouths especially in the higher classes, this was of concern as the breed standard clearly states scissor bite. Movement in some lovely bitches was also disappointing. Also too many lacking the desired heart room, width and depth of chest, that all said there were plenty who fitted my ideal and more. There were some beautiful bitches and not enough cards in some classes. I was looking for an elegant well made cavalier with the true cavalier temperament that the breed is renowned for, luckily they were in abundance.
