Dogs Mrs C Eckersley (Chadwick – USA)
I would like to thank the Committee and Cavalier Club for selecting me to judge dogs at the prestigious Cavalier Club event. It was an honor and a day I will never forget. My day would never have gone so smoothly without the help of my two ring stewards who kept me right and on time. Everyone accepted my placements with good humor and understanding. It is unfortunate that everyone cannot win but that’s what competitive events are all about!
My goal was to find a small, compact Cavalier with a balanced outline that could move correctly and was pretty. You will see my critiques sound like a broken record but I was fortunate to be able to find what I love in several exhibits. As always with judging not all dogs had everything I wanted and thus I had to compromise. Quality in the open classes was outstanding and those exhibitors with dogs placing in any of those classes should be very proud of their dogs.
Generally speaking I found tails to be so much better in the UK than we see in the USA. Bites seem to be scissor in most of the exhibits. Eye size was adequate and we need to work hard at eliminating white in the eye. Some dogs were over coated but most had moderate coat. Movement can be erratic in Cavaliers but I judged many dogs with really nice sound structure that moved away and came towards me correctly. It was such a pleasure to see this. Temperaments were excellent.
Last year at the Club Show we all had to contend with the ice and snow. This year was the fire drill. I cannot wait to see what next year brings! Looking forward to seeing you all then.

I have long admired this older fellow so when he came in the ring without his usual showy attitude, I was quite taken aback. Fortunately, he got his act together and floated effortlessly around the ring. Compact, sound little dog with gorgeous eyes and rich color. Best Veteran and Best Veteran in Show.
2nd Koster’s Ch Harana Alfie Boe
What a fabulous BT with gleaming black coat. Gorgeous head, large eyes and arch of neck that leads to a level topline. Could have changed places on any day with first place.

Junior (14, 2)
1st Lovel’s Pascavale Hudson at Lovetrac
The most beautiful head on this young dog Moved with good reach and drive and so sound in the rear when moving away. Plenty of bone and lots of gorgeous coat. He is a young dog who is quite a handful and he tended to rock when standing which made him dip his shoulders but when he stood properly his topline was fine as it was on the move. Slightly less weight might be beneficial. Reserve CC.
2nd Moonen’s Djaxxon Of An Excellent Choice NLK‘19
Smaller than the winner, rich red Blenheim, pretty head with huge dark eyes. Moved well around the ring with level topline and tail right off his back. Lacked maturity at the moment but time is on his side.
